Curious and appealing Addometer adding machine made in England in the early 20th century (circa 1900). This machine lets us perform additions and subtractions easily and with exact results, and it comes with a stylus designed to select the numbers in the machines wheels. It comes in its original leather case, in good condition and that still fulfills greatly its protective function. The adding machine is also very well preserved, being a rare and interesting piece for any lover of technology-related antiques. Addometer adding machines became very popular in the first decades of the 20th century. They were manufactured and commercialized by the Reliable Typewriter & Adding Machine Co., Chicago, Illinois, USA. This particular model was made in England; in it, addition is performed by placing the stylus in the hole against the appropriate large, inner number and dialing clockwise. For subtraction, the stylus must be placed in the hole against the appropriate small outer number and dialed counter-clockwise. In this adding machine carry is automatic, and the instrument is cleared by pulling out the tab at bottom right. It bears the engraved serial number 025908. As well as decimal models, versions were also made for working in feet and inches and sterling currency. The machine comes with a paper sheet in which we can read the directions for use. The sheet is complete but it is divided in four parts, easy to match and that let us read the instructions with no problem at all. Because of its charm and perfect working order, this adding machine is a real museum piece that any collector will appreciate. Measurements: Width: 12 in / 30.5 cm. Depth: 5.5 in / 14 cm.
